From the January 30, 2013 Google no longer allows new models of iPhone, iPod touch, iPad or other devices to be configured with Google Sync, which has excellent implementation of Microsoft ActiveSync protocol.

Other configurations existing Google Sync will still work, but the next time you want to add a Gmail account to a device you have to use something else: the eccentric Google IMAP service that works with Apple's Mail application and allows unified inbox with other accounts other than Gmail, and Gmail application, which is excellent, but it is a deposit itself.

To set up synchronization of contacts, repeat the same procedure, with a slight change in the configuration.

 

  • Tap Add Account ...
  • Click Other at the end
  • Press Add Account CardAV
  • Enter google.com and server
  • Enter your e-Google / Gmail as your username
  • Enter your password Google / Gmail and password
  • Enter a description. For example, Gmail contacts or Google contacts
  • Click Next top right
     

And that's it, your contacts will now be synchronized with everything else.

If you are a vulnerable target and you're worried about the security of your Gmail account, you can also set up and use with 2-step verification in Gmail for your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad. For most people this is probably more trouble than help, but is available for those who really need it.
