  • Check if your camera uses S-Video or composite connections for video transfer. You can determine this by locating the input / output ports AV in both chambers. A composite connection is the same size as a headphone jack and usually is yellow. An S-Video connection is larger, round, and has five small holes in it.
  • Put the tape on Hi8 analog camcorder or Hi8 player.
  • Connect the S-Video or composite cable in the Hi8 camcorder or DVD. There will be a space marked input / output AV or AV output of the machine. Connect the other end of the cable into the digital video camera in the slot marked input / output AV or AV input.
  • Press the record button on the digital camcorder. Press the play button on the player or Hi8 camcorder. Let the record run until it ends, and when it does, press "stop" Hi8 machine first, and then the digital video camera. The analog recording was digitized into digital video camera. All that remains is that you transfer to your computer.
  • Connect the USB or FireWire cable into the jack on the DV camera, and plug the other end into your computer. What follows is exactly the same process of transferring digital video camcorder to your new computer.
  • Open the video transfer and editing software that came with your digital video camera. Probably it will open automatically once the camera cable is connected to the computer. Save the file that was recorded on Hi8 tape from your computer. You now have a digital file that you can edit, upload or burn to DVD.
