Connect the iPod dock / USB cable and wait to open your iPod to your computer in iTunes.

Find "Devices" in the list of options in the iTunes window lists and click on it.

Select your iPod under the drop-down menu Device.

Look to the top of the iTunes main screen and you will find the tab "Summary". When open this tab, you will need to manage the "Automatically manage music and videos" or "manually". Select "Manually manage" option. Select "Apply".

Disable automatic syncing for photos, podcasts and games individually, by clicking on these options, then click the tab "Summary" and then the "Manually manage" from. Some versions of iPod, such as the iPod Nano 5th generation, if "Manually manage" option select for music and video, it automatically sets all the other categories and manually sync. If you are unsure whether your iPod model has this feature, then go to the category, and click the Summary tab, as instructed. Select "Apply" after changing your sync settings within each category.

Manually open your iPod from the computer when you are finished. This is a must after selecting the option manual synchronization. In addition to the iPod name in the device list, you will see a small arrow. Click this arrow and wait for notification that you can now put on your iPod.
